negative gaze

The fantasy of intermingling and perspiring among three-dimensional people, drenching each other in saliva as we yell banal inanities, "I'm going to the bathroom!" I have become a bundle of repressed chaotic energy. My friends have transformed into pixelated and lagging shadows of their former selves. Still, what are photos for but to live vicariously through them? Negative gaze - because you don't see the void until it stares back at you.

Jiwoo Lee

Jiwoo Lee (pronounced GEE-ooooo-leeee, not Julie; she/her) is a Houston-based human. When in her natural habitat, she can be spotted wearing black from head to toe, holding a cigarette in one hand and her Ricoh GR in the other. Although she might seem unapproachable, she welcomes any and all chaotic art recommendations. Her current obsessions include, but are not limited to: Teju Cole's Fernweh, vulnerable masculinity in public bathhouses, the perfect documentary that is Shirkers, and Shin Sunhye's Somewhere.
